Money Unit
Central Idea - Money is used globally as a system of exchange
For this unit we had to do A LOT of math. We learned about the history of money and why people started to use money. We also looked at money from different countries and tried to figure out where all the coins Miss. Maria brought in were from. We made our very own 'Little Migros' using the mini mania Migros products. We went to the Migros to find out their price and then set our shop up in our class. We used the 'Little Migros' to practice using money and especially giving back change. That was hard sometimes!
In art class we talked about what money meant to us and from our answers we discovered there were quite a few 'types' of money. Watch our video (below) to find out what we thought.
As our final and very exciting project, we created our very own shop with our own products to sell. We spent the last few weeks of unit making different crafts that we could sell. We made Christmas cards, tree decorations, cookies, pompoms and paintings. We even made our own cloth shopping bags! Have a look at our slideshow to see how it went! We almost sold everything in our shop (THANK YOU PARENTS!!). We then counted all the money we made and sent it to help children in the Philippines who are struggling after a typhoon hit their country. We all decided that was the best place to send our money to, as we had all heard about the floods and the damage they had caused to homes and schools. Throughout the whole project we all worked as a team. It was fantastic!
